BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has revealed he recently received a call from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who invited him to attend the upcoming ASEAN Summit once his appointment is formally completed. Anutin confirmed he is ready to make the visit after assuming office.
Anutin told reporters during a recent interview that the Thai–Cambodian border situation at Ban Nong Chan was not discussed during the call. He explained that he cannot address such matters until the formal process of becoming Prime Minister is complete, which includes the Royal Audience ceremony and the presentation of the government’s policy statement before Parliament.
Responding to reports that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet had asked Malaysia to intervene in the border dispute, Anutin rejected the claim and stressed that Thailand’s sovereignty cannot be subject to outside involvement.
He added that while regional leaders may speak informally, defending national interests will always guide Thailand’s approach. Once his government takes office, he said, protecting sovereignty, national interests, and dignity will remain the top priorities.
Anutin stated that his team continues to focus on gathering information to ensure the new government is prepared to act swiftly once in power. (NNT)
