Thai Army says new discovery of PMN-2 mines in Sisaket proves Cambodia is still violating ceasefire pledges, vows to raise evidence at international forums.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Royal Thai Army has reported the discovery of eight additional PMN-2 anti-personnel mines in the Chong Don Ao area of Kantharalak district, Sisaket province, reinforcing concerns of ongoing Cambodian violations of the ceasefire agreement.

Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvaree said the 132nd Infantry Company, together with the Thailand Mine Action Center (TMAC), uncovered the newly planted mines on Sept 16 during a clearance operation near the Chana Suek base. The devices were found in working condition, indicating recent placement, but have since been safely defused and removed for disposal.

According to the army, the incident proves that Cambodian forces continue to deploy weapons against Thai personnel, contrary to assurances made at the Aug 10 General Border Committee (GBC) meeting, where Cambodia pledged cooperation on mine clearance.

The Thai Army stressed that evidence from these discoveries will be compiled and submitted to relevant international bodies to lodge formal complaints. It called on Cambodia to take genuine responsibility and work sincerely to resolve the issue, noting that Thai soldiers have been the only victims so far. The army underscored the urgency of clearing border areas of landmines to restore safety for people on both sides. (TNA)
