BANGKOK, Thailand – Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Deputy Leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, addressed concerns over the suspension of so-called “mule accounts.” He explained that the issue has been monitored for some time, with only certain groups affected—such as those trading Bitcoin or digital assets via foreign apps, as well as individuals receiving transfers from mule accounts. In some cases, people faced bankruptcy and total financial exclusion.
Siripong emphasized that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is closely monitoring the situation. The Bank of Thailand (BoT) has already announced plans to shorten account freezes from three days to within four hours, pending consultations with other agencies.
He further stressed that the suspensions will not affect the government’s Co-Payment (Kon La Krueng) scheme, as it operates via an application rather than linked bank accounts.
On reports of mass cash withdrawals, Siripong said the trend is temporary but underscored the urgent need to resolve the issue and restore public confidence. BOT is actively addressing the matter. (TNA)
