BANGKOK, Thailand – Authorities have confirmed that a location allegedly operating as a gambling den near Huai Khwang Police Station is not being used for illegal activity, following viral social media posts claiming the site was only 500 meters from the station.
Pol. Col. Prasopchok Iempinit, superintendent of Huai Khwang Police Station, said the posts prompted immediate inspections. The first inspection on Sept. 13 found the site to be a small room previously checked during past operations, with no evidence of gambling. A second inspection at midnight reaffirmed that the room remained empty and unused. He emphasized that the Royal Thai Police treat gambling violations very seriously, instructing all stations to maintain strict monitoring, and encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activity for prompt verification.
The property owner clarified that the room had originally been used solely for storage by a bar located at the front of the property, storing tables, chairs, and beer stock. The lease began in 2015 but ended two years ago due to economic difficulties. Currently, the owner is preparing to convert the space into a studio for her daughter’s activities. She strongly denied any gambling activity had ever taken place in the room and said false social media claims had caused significant reputational and financial damage. To demonstrate transparency, she guided journalists through the property to confirm that the room is vacant and under renovation.
The case highlights the risks of misinformation spreading on social media, which can unfairly damage the reputation of property owners and businesses. Authorities continue to monitor similar claims, reiterating that verification is essential before posting allegations of illegal activity. (TNA)
