BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the nation Sunday (Sept 7), outlining his government’s key priorities and calling for public trust as he begins his term under a limited coalition mandate. Acknowledging the constraints of leading a minority government, he urged all Members of Parliament to set aside political differences and work in the interest of the country.

Anutin identified four critical areas that his administration will prioritize: the economy, national security, natural disasters, and social threats. On economic policy, he stated that efforts will focus on lowering living costs by reducing energy and transportation expenses, addressing household debt for farmers and low-income earners, and supporting grassroots communities in generating sustainable income.

Regarding national security, he reaffirmed Thailand’s stance on safeguarding its territorial sovereignty in the ongoing dispute with Cambodia. While stressing the need for a peaceful resolution, he also pledged to protect Thai lives and ensure timely compensation and support for those affected. On disaster management, the Prime Minister said the government will strengthen early warning systems and ensure timely, fair, and efficient aid distribution.

To address social challenges, Anutin said the administration will take strong action against drug trafficking, human trafficking, fraud, and illegal gambling, both online and offline. He added that collaboration with neighboring countries and global partners will be central to these efforts. He also committed to upholding judicial independence and strictly adhering to the rule of law.

Prime Minister Anutin reiterated his support for constitutional reform in line with the upcoming ruling by the Constitutional Court. Once that process begins, he confirmed the House of Representatives will be dissolved and new elections held. (NNT)
