PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya municipal officers from the Policy and Planning Division of Jomtien district recently fined a resident 2,000 baht for illegally dumping trash. The incident occurred when the individual attempted to secretly dispose of waste using a garbage truck, but officers spotted the act during routine patrols and immediately issued the fine.
Authorities reminded residents that any illegal dumping can be reported via Pattaya City Hotline 1337 or by messaging the “Direct Line to Mayor Beer” Facebook page, enabling officers to track offenders and enforce penalties.
Local residents expressed strong opinions following the incident. Many welcomed the action, saying, “Finally, these selfish people get caught” and “Make the fines heavier for lazy people.” Some pointed out recurring issues, noting areas like Thepprasit Soi 4 where residents continue to dump trash despite posted signs. Others suggested solutions or asked questions, such as, “Where can this type of trash be legally disposed of?” and “Next time, take a photo of the vehicle license plate, will municipal officers follow up?” One comment even proposed harsher measures, suggesting a 20,000-baht fine and a month in jail to serve as a deterrent.
The city continues to emphasize strict enforcement against illegal dumping to maintain cleanliness and public safety across Pattaya.
