BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Government Spokesperson Sasikarn Wattanachan announced that the major digital travel platform Agoda has ranked Thailand’s Khao Yai as the second most popular rural destination in Asia for travelers seeking an escape from urban life. The top spot was awarded to Cameron Highlands in Malaysia. Other destinations in the ranking included Puncak in Indonesia, Fujikawaguchiko in Japan, Kenting in Taiwan, Sapa in Vietnam, Munnar in India, and Pyeongchang in South Korea.

The ranking considered rural destinations with populations not exceeding 50,000 across eight Asian countries. The results were based on accommodation search data on the platform from February 15th to August 15th, 2025. This reflects a growing preference among tourists for nature, local culture, simple lifestyles, and relaxing atmospheres amidst mountains and hills.

Khao Yai’s inclusion as a top destination in Asia is a source of national pride.
