
BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ad Hoc Centre for the Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation has provided a comprehensive update on security, diplomatic efforts, and civilian assistance programs related to the ongoing border tensions.
Security Affairs Spokesperson, Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri, reported that both Thai and Cambodian forces remain deployed along the border. He noted that the Interim Observer Team (IOT) recently visited Chanthaburi and Trat provinces to monitor the enforcement of the ceasefire agreement, observing the permanent border checkpoint at marker 73 and a naval mine-clearing operation. He also announced that the next General Border Committee (GBC) meeting is scheduled for September 7th to 10th, and that a permanent fence will be erected along the undisputed border area between markers 50 and 51.
On the diplomatic front, Deputy Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, Maratee Nalita Andamo, stated that Thailand continues to present facts to the international community. From August 16th to 28th, the Foreign Minister briefed various international bodies, including the United Nations, on Cambodia’s violations of the Ottawa Convention and humanitarian law. She added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also presented proof of Cambodia’s ongoing disinformation operations and has urged them to cease these activities.
Additionally, Deputy Government Spokesperson Sasikarn Wattanachan confirmed that the government continues to provide assistance and compensation to those affected by the recent clashes, with the latest measure being a tax waiver on financial aid received. (NNT)
