Tropical Storm “Nongfah” weakens, but heavy rain and flash floods remain a threat across 43 provinces.

PATTAYA, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department reports that Tropical Storm “Nongfah” has weakened into a strong low-pressure system, now covering the upper northeastern region and moving into northern Thailand today. Combined with an intensifying southwest monsoon, the system is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall across 43 provinces over the next 1–2 days.

Northern provinces most affected include Nan, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Phichit, Phetchabun, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, Lampang, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Tak, and Mae Hong Son. Areas in the lower north are at particular risk of flash floods, landslides, and sudden runoff, especially in locations where rain has already accumulated.

The northeast, central, eastern, and southern provinces are also expected to experience widespread rainfall. Residents are advised to remain alert, especially in flood-prone or low-lying areas.

At sea, strong southwest monsoon winds are generating waves of 2–3 meters in the upper Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, with higher waves in stormy conditions. Small vessels are advised to stay ashore, and larger vessels should exercise caution.

Despite the weakening of “Nongfah,” scattered rain is expected to continue into next week, particularly across the lower north, central and northeastern regions, and Bangkok–Metropolitan area, due to monsoon troughs. Citizens are urged to monitor weather alerts closely and take necessary precautions. (TNA)
