SAMUT SAKHON, Thailand — Traffic has been restored on Rama 2 Road following an early morning crane accident on August 31, which left three people injured. The Department of Highways reported that the crane overturned at kilometer 27 (toward Bangkok) while lifting steel beams for the Bang Khun Thian–Ban Phaeo Elevated Highway Project (Section 4).
Preliminary reports indicate the crane lost balance during operations, causing the boom and steel beams to fall onto the adjacent lanes, striking a passing pickup truck. All three injured individuals were taken to hospital and are receiving treatment.
Highway engineers and experts were dispatched immediately to assist, remove the crane, and clear the roadway. The main inbound lanes were reopened by 9:30 a.m., restoring normal traffic flow.
To prevent similar incidents, the Department of Highways has ordered the contractor to suspend construction for three days to review safety measures, operational procedures, and implement a concrete mitigation plan before resuming work. Authorities also plan to visit and support the injured and affected parties, emphasizing public safety as a top priority. (TNA)
