BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s women’s national volleyball team made a strong start at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2025, defeating Egypt 3–1 sets (25–15, 23–25, 25–15, 25–11) in Bangkok. A full-capacity crowd cheered the home team to victory, creating an electric atmosphere for the tournament’s opening match.

Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong attended the ceremony and match alongside senior officials, offering support to the athletes from courtside as Thailand secured its first win of the competition.



The Thai team took control early, dominating the first set before Egypt fought back to claim the second. Thailand quickly regained momentum, overwhelming their opponents in the third and fourth sets to seal the victory and build confidence heading into the next round.

Government leaders said the event showcased Thailand’s ability to stage international tournaments while also boosting sports-driven tourism. Hosting global competitions is seen as an opportunity to stimulate local economies and strengthen Thailand’s profile as a regional sports hub.
