Lt Gen Paisal Nusang leads aerial reconnaissance and orders tighter patrols, route closures, and coordinated action to prevent insurgent weapon trafficking.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Lt Gen Paisal Nusang, Commander of the 4th Army Area and Director of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4, conducted an aerial reconnaissance over the forested and mountainous border areas of Narathiwat province, following intelligence reports that insurgent groups were smuggling weapons and ammunition from a neighboring country into Thailand.

The survey was conducted to identify possible smuggling routes, concealment points, and vulnerable areas that could be exploited for illegal arms transport. The operation also assessed forest density, terrain challenges, the positioning of patrol units, and the operational readiness of border checkpoints.

Following the flight, Lt Gen Paisal held an urgent meeting with the Suriyothai Control Unit and the Narathiwat Special Task Force. The session resulted in an updated interdiction plan that includes closing suspected routes, increasing day-and-night ground patrols, and improving coordination with security agencies across the border.

Security officials agreed that these measures are critical to preventing insurgent groups from acquiring weapons and enhancing their operational capacity. The strategy will rely on intelligence-led planning and sustained pressure in high-risk areas.

The 4th Army Area confirmed that operations along the border will be continuous and more intensive in the coming weeks to safeguard national security and disrupt any attempts at cross-border arms smuggling. (NNT)
