After 15 days in shelters, families in Surin pack up to return home—many with no income and livestock losses.

SURIN, Thailand – After two weeks in evacuation centers, residents of Surin are starting to return to their homes as the situation is deemed safe. The governor is expected to make an official announcement later today.

The atmosphere at the shelters is one of palpable relief, with over 80% of evacuees already packing their belongings. One resident, who had been without income for 15 days, expressed her eagerness to return home and find work. She also highlighted the loss of a cow and appealed for urgent government assistance.

The governor confirmed that while most people are ready to leave, the province is conducting a final check before issuing an official order. The return process for all evacuees, which includes a number of bedridden individuals, could take up to three days.

He also warned residents to be careful of unexploded ordnance in some border areas, which have not yet been cleared to avoid potential misunderstandings with neighboring countries. The governor added that financial aid would be provided to those who lost income and suffered damage. (TNA)
