Victory at Dawn — Thai troops raise the national flag atop Phu Makua after reclaiming the hill from entrenched Cambodian forces.

SISAKET, Thailand – Thai military forces have successfully recaptured Phu Makua in Sisaket Province from Cambodian troops, following intense overnight fighting. The hilltop, previously occupied by heavily fortified Cambodian forces, was retaken by Thai soldiers at 6:50 p.m. on July 25.

At 3:30 a.m., Cambodian troops launched a counterattack, sparking renewed clashes. However, by 8:45 a.m., the official Thai Army page “Army Trend Update” declared Phu Makua secure, proudly posting that the Thai national flag had been raised and the national anthem sung atop the hill — symbolizing the reclaiming of sovereignty with the words, “Our independence will not be trampled.”

By 9:20 a.m., security sources from the 2nd Army Region confirmed full control of 90% of Phu Makua. Cleanup operations continued through the day, targeting Cambodian military installations, including a cable car, radar tower, and metal stairway built to reinforce their occupation. The remaining 10% of the area was expected to be cleared by 2:00 p.m. with support from demolition teams.

A new Thai infantry company has been deployed to hold the frontline while earlier assault units rest. Heavy weapons reinforcements are also being moved into position. Cambodian casualties were confirmed at 10 soldiers, and significant military equipment was seized.

Army Deputy Spokesperson Col. Ritcha Suksuwanon later confirmed the operation’s success and raised concerns over continued Cambodian efforts to regain the territory, including artillery fire and force buildup along the border.
