
BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Cabinet has officially approved the appointment of Withai Ratanakorn as the new Governor of the Bank of Thailand (BoT), effective October 1, 2025, following the end of current Governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput’s term on September 30.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister’s Office Spokesperson Jirayu Huangsap. Withai was nominated by the Ministry of Finance after a thorough vetting process by relevant anti-corruption and transparency bodies. The Cabinet endorsed the nomination in line with legal procedures, and the royal appointment process will now proceed.
Withai, 54, holds multiple degrees in economics, finance, and business law from Thammasat University, Chulalongkorn University, and Drexel University (USA). He has held senior positions in both public and private sectors, including roles at GSB (Government Savings Bank), Nok Air, the Islamic Bank of Thailand, and the Government Pension Fund.
He is expected to lead the BoT through coordinated efforts in monetary and fiscal policy to help drive Thailand’s economic stability and growth. (TNA)
