DHARAMSHALA — Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama took part in a ceremony marking his 90th year in Dharamshala, northern India, ahead of his birthday on July 6. The revered monk offered blessings to monks and devoted followers, including Hollywood actor and longtime Tibetan Buddhism supporter Richard Gere.
This week, a three-day gathering of important Buddhist figures is also underway. However, the atmosphere is tinged with unease, as there remains uncertainty over who will succeed the Dalai Lama as the next spiritual leader.
Followers are anxiously awaiting guidance, especially after the Dalai Lama previously hinted that his successor would not be born in China and urged his followers to reject any appointee selected by the Chinese government. The unresolved issue has stirred growing concern among Tibetan communities around the world. (TNA)
