Heavy rain alert for North and Northeast Thailand — flash floods and runoff possible, warns Meteorological Department.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a warning for residents in the North and Northeast to prepare for heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas, which could trigger flash floods and runoff.

The warning highlights Chiang Rai and Nan in the North, and several areas across the Northeast, urging the public to exercise caution—especially in mountain slopes, near waterways, and low-lying areas. Accumulated rainfall could result in dangerous flash flooding and landslides.

The current conditions are caused by a monsoon trough crossing upper Myanmar and northern Thailand, feeding into a low-pressure system over northern Laos and Vietnam, combined with a moderate southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Rain is also expected across the Central region, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, and parts of the East, with isolated heavy rain. The South will experience scattered thunderstorms in some areas.

Marine warning:

The upper Andaman Sea will see waves reaching 1–2 meters.
The lower Andaman and upper Gulf of Thailand will see waves around 1 meter.
In areas with thunderstorms, waves could exceed 2 meters.

Fishermen and boat operators in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are advised to navigate with caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas.
