PHNOM PENH, Cambodia – Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen announced he will deliver a direct message to the Thai people on June 27, in which he plans to expose what he claims is a plot by former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to change Thailand’s leadership and allegedly insult the Thai monarchy.
The statement was made during Hun Sen’s visit to troops in Oddar Meanchey province and meetings with displaced persons in Preah Vihear. He emphasized he had “nothing to fear” and declared, “I owe nothing to Thailand.”
The remarks were shared in a post on the official Facebook page of The Phnom Penh Post at 5:28 PM today.
Hun Sen, Cambodia’s longtime former prime minister and now president of the Senate, did not elaborate on the nature of the alleged plan but said more details would be revealed in his statement on Friday.
The comments are expected to spark new tensions amid already sensitive Thai-Cambodian relations.
