Akanat Promphan praises Phitsanulok Sugar’s shift toward green innovation and community-based economic growth as a model for cleaner, competitive agriculture.

PHITSANULOK, Thailand – Minister of Industry Akanat Promphan recently visited Phitsanulok province to review progress in supporting sustainable agriculture and advancing Thailand’s sugarcane and sugar industry. During his inspection of Phitsanulok Sugar Co., Ltd. in Bang Krathum district, he was briefed on operational challenges, recommendations, and ongoing efforts to reduce sugarcane burning while enhancing industry competitiveness.

The situation regarding sugarcane burning in the province has steadily improved, aligning with national efforts to promote cleaner practices in sugarcane farming. The Industry Ministry has introduced several measures to assist farmers and businesses in modernizing operations under its “Fight, Save, Build” framework. These measures promote legal compliance, economic stability for workers, and innovation in industrial development.

Phitsanulok Sugar Co., Ltd. has adopted a four-pronged strategy to modernize its operations. The company is transitioning to the S-curve economic model for long-term business growth, improving collaboration with surrounding communities, promoting environmental sustainability through green practices, and enhancing income opportunities through local job creation and enterprise development.

The company’s direction supports the Ministry’s broader objectives of guiding Thai industry toward a modern, inclusive, and environmentally conscious future. Officials view the progress in Phitsanulok as a potential model for other regions looking to transform their agricultural and industrial sectors.

The visit also provided an opportunity for the ministry to gather input from local stakeholders to inform future policy and improve programs that promote both industrial development and environmental responsibility nationwide. (NNT)
