NSC asserts readiness as Thailand addresses border tensions with Cambodia

Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa underscores Thailand’s confidence in productive trade talks, highlighting the enduring alliance and proactive diplomacy via the Thai Embassy in Washington.

BANGKOK, Thailand – National security strategies were discussed to address tensions along the Thai–Cambodian border and ensure peaceful international relations.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, who also chairs the National Security Council, led the recently held 4th security council meeting of 2025 at the Government House.



The council reviewed the latest developments on the Thai–Cambodian border and assessed government agencies’ responses. A special task force will be established to monitor, coordinate, and recommend further action, especially if Cambodia escalates tensions.

The Royal Thai Armed Forces were assigned to stay alert and ready for any situation changes. The meeting emphasized protecting Thailand’s sovereignty while preserving diplomatic relations with Cambodia, aligning with the upcoming Joint Border Committee (JBC) talks scheduled for June 14th.


To counter misinformation and avoid public panic, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society was assigned to verify and respond swiftly. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense will lead public communication efforts to ensure accurate and timely information is shared domestically and internationally.
