Ukrainian woman arrested at Phuket Airport after wrecking condo room in deposit dispute

The 19-year-old Ukrainian woman was arrested by immigration police at Phuket Airport on May 10 while attempting to flee Thailand.

PHUKET, Thailand – A 19-year-old Ukrainian woman was arrested at Phuket International Airport while attempting to leave the country, after allegedly causing over 350,000 baht in damages to a rented condominium unit. The suspect confessed to vandalizing the property in anger over a withheld security deposit of 32,000 baht.

Police from Wichit Police Station had previously issued two summonses for the woman, who had rented a unit near a major shopping center in central Phuket. After she failed to appear, a warrant was issued for her arrest. Officers say the damages she caused included broken furniture and severe property destruction.



Immigration officials at Phuket Airport detained the suspect at approximately 3:20 p.m. on May 10, as she attempted to leave Thailand. Wichit Police were notified and dispatched officers to take her into custody and escort her back to the station for interrogation.

The suspect admitted to destroying the condo interior out of frustration at not receiving her deposit back. She further told investigators she was under emotional stress due to pregnancy. Police will proceed to formally charge her with property damage, and the case will be submitted to court on May 11.
