Prime Minister has called on ministries to revise development plans in line with declining national revenue forecasts.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has urged the Cabinet to prepare for the effects of a global economic slowdown, directing a review of all government projects to ensure efficient use of resources amid declining national revenue. During the 17th Cabinet meeting on May 6, the Premier instructed the Ministry of Finance to work with the Economic Stimulus Committee to submit revised strategies to help maintain economic stability.

In response to the World Bank’s outlook on slower global growth, ministers were told to ensure that budget requests and development plans reflect the current economic environment. The government is now seeking to consolidate efforts across ministries and state agencies to maintain financial discipline and make timely policy adjustments.

Security concerns in the southern border provinces were also addressed. Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Phumtham Wechayachai has been assigned to lead efforts with military and police forces to implement urgent preventive measures. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has been tasked with ensuring provincial governors in the area provide support and reassurance to residents affected by violence.

The Prime Minister also raised concerns over administrative coordination, urging all ministries to ensure that any agenda items submitted to the Cabinet are legally sound and fully vetted. Agencies were advised to avoid submitting last-minute items that could result in incomplete review or a lack of inter-agency consultation. (NNT)
