PM to lead two-day tour of Thailand’s upper northeastern provinces, focused on development and regional cooperation

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will lead a two-day inspection tour of Thailand’s Upper Northeastern Provincial Cluster on April 28, culminating in chairing the second mobile Cabinet meeting of 2025 in Nakhon Phanom province the next day. The mission will cover administrative performance and development plans across Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, and Sakon Nakhon.



The prime minister’s agenda includes promoting sustainable agricultural production, upgrading tourism infrastructure, expanding trade and logistics networks, reinforcing public safety and anti-drug measures, improving water resource management, and strengthening public utilities. Special attention will be given to integrating the cultural heritage of the Mekong River into local tourism and economic strategies.

On April 28, Paetongtarn is scheduled to inspect water management projects at Don Koen Public Park in Sakon Nakhon before traveling to Wat That Prasit in Nakhon Phanom’s Na Wa district to assess the “Na Wa Model” for community-driven development. She will also chair a meeting at the Mekong Riverine Unit to review border drug suppression efforts and attend a Fireboat Parade cultural event.


During the Cabinet session, Nakhon Phanom officials are expected to propose elevating the province’s Fireboat Festival to international status as part of broader efforts to boost tourism and the local economy. Additional proposals to leverage the Mekong River’s cultural heritage for regional development will also be discussed.

After the Cabinet meeting on April 29, the prime minister will chair a final session at the Nakhon Phanom Customs House to assess cross-border trade activities and support strategies for enhancing regional economic cooperation along Thailand’s northeastern frontier. (NNT)
