BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand is celebrating the 243rd anniversary of the Rattanakosin Kingdom through nationwide events honoring royal heritage and cultural pride.

The government is inviting the public to join the grand celebration of “243 Years of Rattanakosin under Royal Grace,” running through April 27. The event highlights Thai cultural heritage with pride and reverence.

Sasikan Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced that the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with public and private sectors, as well as religious and cultural networks, is hosting commemorative activities at Chulalongkorn University’s Centenary Park, the Bangkok National Museum, and Wat Prayurawongsawas Worawihan. The occasion marks the founding of the Rattanakosin Kingdom by King Rama I on April 21, 1782, and honors the monarch’s legacy and the Chakri dynasty.

On April 20, a religious ceremony and divine blessing ritual were held at Chulalongkorn University. On April 21, merit-making rites and alms-giving for 99 monks took place at Wat Pho, followed by a sacred homage ceremony at the City Pillar Shrine in Bangkok.

From April 23rd–27th, the Centenary Park will feature the immersive art exhibition “Light of Royal Wisdom” in honor of King Rama X and past Chakri kings, along with cultural performances, academic sessions, music, khon dance, folk dramas, and demonstrations of traditional Rattanakosin cuisine and desserts.

At the Bangkok National Museum, visitors can enjoy cultural shows, nighttime museum tours, open-air film screenings, and local food and product fairs.

Wat Prayurawongsawas will host a temple fair, offering activities such as blessings, cultural tours, night bike rides, traditional music contests, interfaith culinary competitions, and cultural product showcases celebrating the historic neighborhood.

The government encourages citizens to express loyalty to the monarchy and participate in the “243 Years of Rattanakosin” festivities, which aim to preserve Thai arts and culture, foster national pride, and bring the royal visions of volunteer spirit and cultural continuity to life. (NNT)
