Heavy rains caused flooding in many areas of Bangkok and the adjacent provinces of PathumThani and Nonthaburion Tuesday Sep 6.

Floodwater was nearly two meters deep at some locations and snarl-ups happened on many roads.

The rains occurred from yesterday afternoon to yesterday evening. Bangkok’s Bang Khen district was the hardest hit with heavy traffic congestion and vehicle breakdowns on many local roads.

The commuters who used public transport seriously suffered a long wait for their buses which were blocked by floodwater and traffic problems. They packed the Chatuchak Park station of the BTS electric railway to take cover from the rain while waiting for their passenger vans. Many commuters waited for their buses under their own umbrellas on PhahonYothin traffic island.

Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt waded through floodwater and helped push a van that broke down in Bang Khen district. He apologized for the flooding and said he hoped traffic would be better on main streets this morning while flooding could remain in housing estates.

In PathumThani province, roads in Rangsit municipality were inundated with floodwater nearly two meters deep on some locations. Local officials warned people to move their belongings to high grounds.

In Nonthaburi province, deep floodwater was reported on Chaeng Watthana and Pak Kret roads. Traffic snarl-ups continued for three hours on some sections of the roads.

The Meteorological Department predicted heavy rains would continue in 59 provinces until Sept 9. (TNA)
