BANGKOK, June 5 — Thailand’s National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) plans to lift the curfew in other tourism areas, even while persons on its list who have not already surrendered as summoned can present documents to the authorities to extend their deadlines.

During the daily NCPO news briefing, deputy spokesman Col Winthai Suwaree said the council is considering further revocation of curfew in other tourist destinations to further ease the people’s hardships.

Revoking the curfew would be implemented immediately, after security and intelligence agencies have thoroughly assessed that those areas are safe, Col Wnthai said.

As for handling groups that protest against the NCPO operations, the Council would continue to handle them through two means, first, preventing communication among opponents, and if they continue resisting NCPO orders, stronger measures will be taken.

Meanwhile, persons called in to report to the NCPO were requested to explain their actions. The council said most would not be detained, according to Col Winthai.

The council understood that many of those who had been called in might not be ready to report directly due to health and personal issues.

They would be able to submit documentation on their reasons and extend their deadlines, he said.
