“We2r1” present to Mercy Center
Kavita Lamba
Wednesday August 12, being Mothers’ Day, was very special for many
people in Thailand, especially for the children at the Mercy Center. This
was not a day that the children were with their birth mothers but it was
made special by John and Wendy Khan, otherwise known as “We2r1”.
John
and Wendy Khan present a donation to Elizabeth Sheperd at the Mercy Center.
They came to entertain the children with some great upbeat songs as well as
presenting their donation. The children clapped along with them and some
even played the tambourines in appreciation. The children presented their
surrogate mothers with flowers and were treated to an extra special feast.
John and Wendy have been playing and singing together for as long as they
can remember, but 9 months ago decided to call themselves “We2r1” and
started playing in local bars and resorts raising funds for their favorite
charity, the Mercy Centre in Pattaya.

have often given them their support, even when they were unable to attend
their performances.
John and Wendy have managed to raise a magnificent amount of 9,150 baht and
would like to offer their thanks, both to the bars and their patrons, for
their support.

To Be No. 1 anti-drug corners open
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome poses with teens
during
the To Be No. 1 Friends Corner project opening.

Peer pressure often is why kids take drugs, but Pattaya
officials think it also can be used to keep youngsters off them.
That’s why the city is backing the opening of the “To Be No. 1 Friends
Corner,” an informational center in every school where youthful
ambassadors will teach fellow students about the evils of drug use.
The organization, set up with royal backing, stages various events to
promote its anti-drug message. The kids corner will be a permanent
fixture in all Pattaya schools.
Speaking at the Aug. 8 opening ceremony, Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome said
the project will teach youths to prevent drug use and use this knowledge
to teach their friends. It will also help develop the youngsters’
leadership skills and promote cooperation with parents and civic groups.
“Drug use is a national problem that has spread rapidly amongst our
teenagers,” the mayor said. “Therefore, Pattaya City has various
projects including the To Be No. 1 program to help prevent the spread of
drug use.”
