Going Greek at Garden International School

This time, the play at Garden International School was about ancient Greece.

Grateful parent
All parents are proud when they watch their kids perform and we all enjoy visiting our kid’s school when it is time for yet another assembly. What do they have in store for us this time? Having seen my fair share of assemblies I always get pleasantly surprised. It is easy to see for all parents, teachers and friends in other year groups that everybody has been working hard to get the play just right. A play that combines subjects like history, geography, science, math and literacy.
This time the play was about ancient Greece. You can learn a lot from the children about daily life in Greece, and by looking at the costumes and helmet you get a pretty good idea on how people dressed in the “good old days”.
I had the pleasure of eating a well prepared Greece lunch before the assembly, with the kids and their fantastic teachers all wearing costumes. I actually felt a bit out of place and under dressed not looking Greek, but never mind. The lunch was wonderful and I’ll bet you it did not taste any better back when Sparta and Athena were some of the main cities in Greece.

Regent’s School Round Service Group takes to gardening

On Thursday, March 23, the Round Square Service Group visited the shelter again and managed to plant most of the bushes.

At the beginning of the second term, The Regent’s School Round Square Service Group visited the Chonburi Shelter for Family and Children. The purpose of this establishment is to guarantee security and a home for people that have been maltreated or just need a safe place for privacy. However, this is not a permanent residence for them but a place where they can find safety until the social workers there find a solution to their problem, e.g. a permanent home. After finding a right solution for the people, the social workers do not lose contact with them. They do their best to keep helping them and make sure they are living a safe life.
After visiting the Chonburi Shelter for Family and Children, the Round Square Service Group decided to help the institution by planting a Round Square garden that would help people to relax and to foster the sense of community, togetherness and safety in the shelter.
The Regent’s Secondary Student Guild sponsored the Service Group with 8,400 baht with which we were able to buy 840 Xioria bushes to decorate the yard of the shelter.
The Service Group’s Gardening Project was also generously supported by Khun Took, the owner of Mai-Thai gardening shop. Took donated 50 bags of soil and arranged free transport of the plants from Bangkok to Chonburi.
The Round Square Service Group not only contributed to the social life but also received warm feedback from the workers that offered refreshments and snacks after 2 hours of work.
On Thursday, March 23, the Round Square Service Group visited the shelter again. We managed to plant most of the bushes which made the shelter look more colourful and the people there happier. We also hope to visit them again, soon after Songkran, to continue the gardening project and see our new friends at the shelter.
