One of Pattaya’s most multi-faceted company’s, the PIC Group, celebrated their 30th anniversary on Wednesday July 21. The company, run by the affable managing director, Dr. Sunya Viravaidya, which operates the Pattaya International Hospital in Soi 5, along with the PIC Kitchen, the Jazz Pit, PIC Super Food and the Sugar Hut Resort, treated staff and guests to champagne and a huge 30 pound birthday cake at its Soi 5 premises.

As with any business, there are always long-term staff members and those clocking up 10 and 20 years were recognized for their contributions to the growth and success of the company over the last 3 decades. Among the night’s festivities was a Miss PIC Beauty Pageant.

The party kicked off with a bang and ceremonies with Dr. Sunya being joined by Gen. Niphon Paranyanit, management advisor opening the party.

“Tonight’s 30th anniversary party is for the enjoyment of our dedicated staff. I feel lucky to have such a capable team spread throughout the Pattaya International Hospital in Soi 5, along with the PIC Kitchen, the Jazz Pit, PIC Super Food and the Sugar Hut Resort, all of whom have contributed to our success over the last 30 years. We have strived to improve and keep a high level of service and instill it within each and every member, and those people who have left our employ have gone on to be successful in their own businesses. We are happy for those people and that we have been able to contribute to their success as they have done so for us,” said Dr. Sunya.

Pattaya Mail turns 11 whilst Pattaya Blatt learns to walk at 2

To commemorate and celebrate the auspicious dates of the birth of two of Pattaya’s best known and most read newspapers, a Buddhist religious ceremony was held at the Pattaya Mail Publishing Company offices on Second Road on Friday July 23.

Nine monks, led by Phra Khru Patrakijviboon affectionately known as Acharn Kan, abbot of Wat Huay Yai, chanted prayers and bestowed blessings on the company and all those who attended. It was meant to be a quiet affair, just for management and staff, but some distinguished guests came by to wish us a happy birthday, including Mayor Niran Wattanasartsathorn.

The ceremonies were held to mark the 11th Anniversary of the Pattaya Mail, Pattaya’s First English Language Newspaper on July 23 and the 2nd birthday of the Pattaya Blatt, the German language newspaper for Thailand, on July 7.

Pattaya Mail in co-operation with Capital TV also has a very popular television show known as the Pattaya Mail Plus, which is shown on Sophon Cable TV.

Monks bestowed blessings on the Malhotra family businesses of Massic Travel and Classic Tailors operating in the same building.

After the ceremonies everyone was invited to enjoy our home made lunch prepared by family and friends.

It was an informal affair, but friends who learned that ceremonies were to be held came by to wish us well. We cannot name all of you here, but we sincerely thank you very much for your treasured friendship.

‘Welcome to Petchabun’ Road Show rolls up to the east coast

Visit Petchabun on your next holiday, there’s lots to do and plenty to see. Such was the message at last week’s ‘Welcome to Petchabun’ Road Show at the Central Festival Center.

With the new government policies encouraging Thais to travel and discover the treasures of Thailand, the Tourist Authority of Thailand in cooperation with the Province of Petchabun and the Business Association of that province, set off on a road show which would take the promotional team to Chonburi, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai and on to Khaosarn Road in Bangkok during the month of July.

The Ancient Srithep Dance held the audience spellbound.

Direk Thuengfang, the governor of Petchabun province who opened the exhibition on Saturday July 24, heads the road show. Governor Direk said that the road show is a joint venture to encourage and assist people of Petchabun to introduce their products under the One Tambon One Product (OTOP) project, but more importantly to make known to people from the other regions in Thailand the possibilities of visiting the province.

OTOP products from Petchabun Province were a big hit during the road show.

“We the people of Petchabun are very proud of our heritage.” He went on to say the slogan of Petchabun province, “One Night in Petchabun extends your life by 1 year” speaks for itself, referring to the fresh, clean air.

Petchabun also boasts a civilization dating back more than 2000 years. Some of the more famous places, such as the historical Srithep Park and the Por Khun Pha Muang monument, draw thousands of visitors each year.

The governor extended an invitation to everyone in Pattaya and the east coast to visit Petchabun, saying that Petchabun is easily assessable by 4 major highways and the traveling time by car is only 5 1/2 hours.


Candle composition highlight of buddhist Lent

The candle composition festival has been annually celebrated in the kingdom for hundreds of years. Throughout the rainy season, Buddhist monks will be staying in their temples to practice the teachings of Buddha. In the past, candles were the only source of light to help the monks read the holy book.

Today, candles may no longer be practical in most of the temples, but the department of culture doesn’t want this festive ceremony to fade away.

So, Banglamung’s culture department, Wat Chaimongkol, Pattaya police station, Tourism Authority of Thailand Central Region 3, and Pattaya City Hall last week jointly organized candle composition festival.

On the Buddhist Lent day, August 1, devotees will deliver the candles to local temples to mutually celebrate the beginning of Buddhist Lent.

Surat Mekhawarakul, Banglamung culture department president and chairman of the culture council, headed the celebration held at Wat Chaimongkhol.

The festival was also held to commemorate the 6th cycle birthday of HM the Queen. Besides the candle composing festival, Buddhist devotees also donated alms to the monks.

On the day, devotees carried their candles in a procession from Wat Chaimongkol back to their schools, organizations, and offices to prepare for the upcoming event. On the Buddhist Lent day, August 1, devotees will deliver the candles to forty-four temples in Pattaya City and the Banglamung area for the Buddhists to mutually celebrate the beginning of Buddhist Lent.
