Happy Birthday Arlette
Arlette Cykman is a well known lady in Pattaya, and not
only in the Pattaya International Ladies Club where she has an important
function on the board, but also as businesswoman who has shown to possess an
infallible taste in jewelry.
Many
friends came to say happy birthday to Arlette.
Arlette, an American of Russian decent, is now a Thai
citizen. After 40 years of residence in the kingdom she has all right to be
one.
In her younger years (and perhaps even now) Arlette could
have passed as Elizabeth Taylor, a fact that was brought up more than once
at her recent birthday celebration. Everybody loves Arlette, and so she had
the chance to celebrate her birthday several times, such is the bane of
being so popular.
The last celebration took place in Judy and Bruce
Hoppe’s dream penthouse. Almost all colleagues from the PILC, and of
course many other friends attended, bringing with them hands full of
presents.
Everyone enjoyed the food and drink in this hospitable house, and Arlette
enjoyed it most of all.
BCCT returns to Bangsaray for an evening of networking
The British Chamber of Commerce Thailand (BCCT) headed back to the
Eastern Seaboard for a networking evening sponsored by the Travel Clinic and
the Bangsaray Club.
Suwanna
Viroonchan (far right) and her sales team show their ‘wow’ effect on the
special travel package deals in conjunction with the opening of sister
company Travel Clinic Holidays.
With the masses converging on Pattaya for the Pattaya
Music Festival, local networkers made their way through traffic chaos and
heavy rain for the occasion, held in the Bangsaray Club’s lush garden
surroundings with cool sea breezes to refresh them. Delicious English style
snacks were laid out for the night. As with any networking night, the
regulars were in full attendance and even some new faces turned up.
Suwanna and her team from the Travel Clinic were eagerly
handing out fliers announcing the division Travel Clinic Holidays offering
very good travel packages to Europe and Australia. “We want to announce
the new sister company Travel Clinic Holidays,” said Suwanna, who is also
an Eastern Seaboard BCCT committee member.
Suwanna and her team were busy explaining the new deals
adding that business was good, a sentiment echoed by a number of people,
saying that the business climate had picked up in recent months and they
were forging ahead with new projects and opportunities early in the year.
A lucky draw was held with winners receiving
accommodation packages in Vienna and Travel Clinic merchandise.
It was a fruitful and lighthearted night. The talented international
guitarist Mick Barker entertained the group with renditions of well-known
classic rock tunes before everyone begrudgingly made their way home.
Free tamarind with your bamboo!
The thriving business of PBF Bamboo Furniture on
Thepprasit Road is celebrating the opening of their new Bedroom Showroom
with a gift for everyone that visits during the month of April. It is
something that will in a small way help the farmers of Phetchabun Province.
Free
tamarind for everyone who stops by PBF Bamboo Furniture on Thepprasit Road.
As the business has grown, shop owner Yung has helped her
home village. “We have our factory there which now employs about 30
people. We were the biggest employer in the village when we opened the
factory with just 4 people. It has made a real difference to the village
with the work force not having to migrate looking for work.”
Yung continued, “We were going to have the customary
balloon party with the slaughter of a couple of pigs, but this is something
that lasts the whole month not just an afternoon.” And what is it?
The whole month of April will see every visitor to the
showroom receive half a kilo of tamarind fruit. PBF Bamboo will buy the
fruit in at last year’s prices to help the farmers, as the price has
collapsed. In this small way it will help the farmers of Phetchabun. The
fruit will come in a truck with the bamboo furniture. There will be plenty
of tamarind and beds in stock. Yung and her staff are looking forward to
seeing you. It is said that an individual can always make a difference and
certainly this individual is trying to do her bit.

PILC holds ‘coffee morning’ at the Alkemy Restaurant
The ladies of the Pattaya International
Ladies Club (PILC) can certainly be regarded as magicians when we consider
how much they accomplish for their members and our community. They always
find a new place for their get-togethers which suits the club and offer all
that is nice and beautiful. Their good deeds and charity work in the region
are renowned and their hospitality and helpful information is indispensable.
Once
again, the PILC coffee morning was well attended.
This time they met for their monthly coffee morning in
the Alkemy Restaurant, which belongs to the Nova apartments and has an air
of magic about it. The chef prepared a variety of sumptuous delicacies to
tempt the palate. Since alchemy is a secret art of turning an ordinary
substance into gold, the recipes are probably well-guarded.
These coffee mornings are arranged for newcomers as an introduction to
the club and allow them a chance to find out about various activities
available and some information on the community. Of course these coffee
mornings also offer something new for the ‘old members’, including
buying a book, receiving the monthly newsletter or just the opportunity to
chat with friends and colleagues during a brunch.
