Pattaya City sends help to flood victims in Sukhothai Province
Supplies donated by Pattayans are rushed to needy villagers
A caravan loaded with much needed supplies recently took
off from Pattaya City Hall to distribute goods to the people who encountered
disastrous flooding in many areas in Sukhothai province.
These
lovely ladies were just some of the many flood victims in Sukhothai, and
thanks to the help of Pattaya residents, they received some relief.
After Pattaya City, led by the deputy mayor, Wutthisak
Remkijikarn, asked for cooperation from people in Pattaya to donate
necessities to help Sukhothai flood victims, residents responding to the
appeal brought a huge amount of vital provisions to designated spots, such
as supermarkets and malls.
Wutthisak said this year’s severe flooding had created
the worst damage in history to the people of Sukhothai. Rivers that run
through the province filled up and overflowed their banks - flooding
villages that lay in the path including Bangkaew, Wanhin, Rajathani, and
Pracharuamchai.
Wutthisak said, “Many kind-hearted people in Pattaya
donated rice, wheat, dried food, bottled water, and milk products. The goods
were packaged to distribute to approximately 1,500 people.”
Ninety-two thousand baht was also raised and handed over
to Saman Rakborisutsri, the municipality mayor of Sukhothai City.
Saman said that in Klongpho village, the water level rose
2 meters and created great difficulty for over 1,400 families. Saman said,
“Officials warned people to be prepared to protect their houses with
sandbags along the canals, but the speed and force of the water was too
great.” The mayor added it was fortunate that the historical sites and its
priceless antiques were not damaged.
Saman conveyed his thanks and deep appreciation towards
the generous and kind-hearted people of Pattaya City.
Pattaya’s deputy mayor said, “I have great sympathy
for the people of Sukhothai and their hardships. All of us in Pattaya hope
that the donated goods will help ease some of their burdens.”

Suchada Tupchai
Striving for excellence in any service industry is
paramount, especially in the hotel trade. The Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya turned
a recent training event into a fun competition to bring out the best in
creativity and flare among staff members.
Roland
A. Nicolich (right), director of food & beverage, presented a souvenir
to Chanyuth Hengtrakul (left) after the latter began the event with his
opening speech.
Chanyuth Hengtrakul, advisor to the minister of tourism
and sports, presided over the Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya’s “Skills Based
Competition”. The hotel’s director of human resources, Sirithorn
Kraiwisutsup led the competition.
Sirithorn explained that the competition was part of the
Band Members Annual Festival 2003 held to provide various activities and an
annual party for hotel staff. The competition was geared to enhance various
skills and promote teamwork amongst the employees.
The band members, split into color teams, battled it out
for the winning position in the various categories including bed making,
table top setting, merchandise display, hotel product, plate garnishing and
electrical wiring and even a quiz contest.
“A competition like this should be supportive as it
uplifts proficiency and skills among employees. This is also a good example
for other hotels in Pattaya to follow in case they want to introduce similar
programs for the development of professional skills and services,” said
Chanyuth.

Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa launches “Spirit to Serve Our Communities”
On October 9, 2001, the Royal Garden Resort was
re-branded as the Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa. On October 9, 2003, the
Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa celebrated its 2nd Anniversary, and as
part of the celebrations, the resort launched its “Spirit To Serve Our
Communities” project in cooperation with Banglamung Home For Boys,
Fountain of Life Center, Tawanyim Charity Project, Foundation for Children,
Green Leaf Foundation and Pattaya City Hall.
May
(front row, 2nd left) and Neng (front row, 2nd right) were introduced at the
recent Royal Garden press conference.
During a recent press conference, the Pattaya Marriott
Resort & Spa invited two impoverished children, “May” (sister - 12
years), and “Neng” (brother - 11 years). These two children have to earn
money buy selling bean curd juice. They are in primary school and after the
recent passing of their mother, they now only have an alcoholic father. The
plight of these children has recently been the subject of the “Khon Khon
Khon” TV program.
The management of Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa
announced that they will support these two children by sponsoring their
schooling until they graduate from University.
The Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa also recently
launched a new on-going program called “Spirit to Serve Our Communities”
which allows their guests to be part of making a positive difference in the
lives of others.
It is an easy program to support. The amount of 40 baht
will be added to each guest’s account per visit as a donation to the
program. It is of course not a mandatory program and our guests can request
not to participate.
There are a couple of on-going projects that Pattaya
Marriott Resort & Spa has identified to receive support:
The Horticultural Project sponsors and helps the
Banglamung Home for Boys make a vegetable, spice and herb garden, and will
buy back the produce for the hotel’s kitchens and restaurants.
Another project is with the Fountain of Life Center.
Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa Fitness Club hosts a weekly activity
program by inviting the children to the resort for fun activities, games and
goodies.
