MIX MILK WITH CHOCOLATE 2,313

MOVE AND CLIMB 2,656

A LIVE DINER 562

This week’s problem also uses numbers. Use these clues to see if you can guess which number Marvin is thinking about. The number is the same forwards and backwards. It has two parts that are equal and both parts equal (add up to) 2. You can’t divide this number evenly without using fractions or decimals. Do you know this number? Write to Marvin and tell him what you think it is.

It was a day full of special activities, beginning with a programme for younger students in the morning, upper Primary during the afternoon, and secondary students enjoyed an evening event. St Andrews vs I.S.E.

By the boys of
St Andrews Key Stage 3

Recently St Andrews played a football match against I.S.E. The match was played for 40 minutes, 20 minutes each way. St Andrews wore their new football kit of blue shirts, red shorts and white socks. I.S.E wore their familiar kit of all white.

Young soccer lads from St Andrews and ISE look resplendent in their game uniforms. The two teams played to a tough but fin 2-2 draw.

Everybody tried their best to score for their team. Marco scored the first goal for St Andrews. Seven minutes later, I.S.E equalized. The score was 1-1 at half time.

In the second half, Jesse scored the second goal for St Andrews. Just before the final whistle I.S.E equalized making the final score 2-2. St Andrews were unlucky to draw.

Each team played well together, and both teams clearly wanted to win. Everybody was in high spirits and the pupils of St Andrews had supported their team with great enthusiasm. St Andrews International School will have another football match soon and welcome any challenges!

Central Festival Center hosts ‘2nd Eastern Region Drawing Contest’

Songklod Kaewvisit

Central Festival Center in conjunction with the art faculty, and Institute of Sea Studies, science faculty of Burapha University, and Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently organized the 2nd Eastern Region Drawing Contest. The challenge was open for school children of 2 groups, primary and secondary levels. The event encouraged students to artistically convey their love of nature in drawings and paintings.

Many schoolchildren answered the call to ‘Return the sea with a touch of color from your hearts’.

Everything has to be just right...

The participants were advised to express their ideas regarding the protection of the marine environment under the slogan ‘Return the sea with a touch of color from your hearts’. The children were also asked to name their paintings.

The event included the finer aspects of watercolor painting techniques demonstrated by Khon Laen See Club.

Concentrating on what he wants to draw.

Nearly finished - a work of art is being born.

School buddies work together on their masterpieces.

The winners of both levels received a 5,000 baht cash prize and a HSH Princess Siriphajuthaporn trophy. School funds were presented to students who created outstanding pieces of work chosen by members of the Chonburi Education Institute.

Cooking up a Storm

During Term One the Kindergarten and Reception children of St Andrews International School have been busy with their weekly cooking lessons. They have been learning to follow a recipe to make lots of yummy treats, from traditional Thai desserts to jam tarts and strawberry milkshakes. The children have had a wonderful time measuring and mixing, sifting and stirring, kneading and rolling, and of course eating and drinking! With all this new knowledge, there’s bound to be an abundance of help in mummy’s kitchen from now on, so keep an eye out for our “Chefs of the Future”. Don’t forget to try the jam tart recipe-they are delicious!

Mark’s a whiz at making jelly.

Jam Tarts

Ingredients (makes about 15)

400 g butter

800 g flour

a little water

Jam ... we used strawberry and blueberry

Put the butter and flour in a bowl and mix them together with your fingers until the mixture looks crumbly. Add a little water and make the mixture into a ball with your hands. Put it in the fridge for 20 minutes. Remove. Sprinkle some flour on a clean surface and flour your rolling pin. Roll the pastry out and cut circles with a cutter. Make a small “edge” on each circle by bringing up the sides with your fingers and fill the space with a little jam. Cook at 180 for 10 to 15 minutes.

The Regent’s “Wish you a Merry Christmas”

The Regent’s School annual Christmas Concert finished on a rousing note as the combined choirs, orchestra and audience sang “We wish you a Merry Christmas”! It was the grand finale to a wonderful night during which a huge range of music was presented, reflecting the breadth and depth of the Regent’s music programme.

Adding to the night’s enjoyment was an exhibition of work prepared by students in Art, and Design & Technology. Parents and guests marvelled at the creativity and painstaking attention to detail needed to create such wonderful pieces.

Tim Wongnimmarn played a flute duet with Liisa Toompuu.

It was a delight to see the younger students on stage and note the growing confidence of both the Junior Strings group and the Junior Choir. Year 4’s “Flash” wowed the audience with its excellent lighting effects! “Golden Wolves” by Year 6 showcased the results of more experimental work carried out in class. The Samba Band made its debut and had everyone swinging with “Samba, Samba” - a lively number featuring some tricky dance moves by band members and some excellent “whistle” by Mr Goffee!

The lively numbers continued with “Celebration” - a highly successful collaboration by the Jazz Band, Senior Choir and energetic front man, Nipper Wentworth (great moves Nipper!). The ensemble pieces also included the big sound of the Concert Band and the more traditional strains of the Senior String Orchestra.

A change of pace was provided with accomplished presentations by secondary students including Liisa Toompuu and Tim Wongnimmarn with a flute duet, and Merle Laur (flute) and Egle Pedak (piano) playing some Vivaldi. Jenny Kim and Natalie Vu gave the audience an indication of the scope of work required for GCSE examinations by performing their own compositions for piano and flute. And to remind us of the festive season Nikita Malhotra read the timely tale of “The boy who laughed at Santa Claus”.

The Junior Strings group wowed the audience with their growing confidence.

Adding to the night’s enjoyment was an exhibition of work prepared by students in Art, and Design & Technology. During interval, parents and guests marvelled at the creativity and painstaking attention to detail needed to create such wonderful pieces, including gorgeous textiles and models.

The finale was a fitting end to a wonderful concert and a huge well done and thank you to everyone involved - particularly the Regent’s Head of Music, Mr Mark Bradshaw and his team.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

St Andrews KS3 splat each other with paintballs

by KS3

On Tuesday 12th November, KS3 students had an enjoyable night out at Paintball World, Jomtien Beach. We all got changed into our protective gear, which was an army outfit, bandanas, camouflage paint and a safety mask. We were given a safety briefing and we chose our teams (boys vs. girls).

Lean, mean fighting machines, the boys defeated the girls at paintball.

We went out to the outdoor paintball field and got ready to play. We were given the guns and were told how to use them. The object of the game was for each to try and retrieve the flag from the center of the field and bring it back to our base camp.

The boys were the winners of both games and the girls had been shot, a lot! After that we agreed that it should be called ‘painball’ rather than paintball.

Anyway, we all agreed that it was one of our best nights out ever, and we are really looking forward to doing it again!

The girls who could keep a straight face looked pretty “fightin’ ready” too.

A very special thanks to Miss Crawley and Mr. Nightingale for organizing such a wonderful event. And we would like to thank everyone at Paintball World for such a warm welcome. If you would like further details about Paintball, contact Paintball World at telephone number 038 232 796.
