Dunkin’ Donuts unveils “Books for Friends” project

Children, parents and the press attended the recent launch of Dunkin’ Donuts (Thailand) Co. Ltd. “Books for Friends” project which aims to provide underprivileged children in Thailand with a chance to improve their reading skills. The event was organized and held at Dunkin’ Donuts in Siam Square located on Rama I Road, Bangkok.

“Books for Friends”

To participate in the “Books for Friends” project, Dunkin’ Donuts customers and the general public are invited to donate educational books, comic magazines etc., for students aged 14-16 which can be delivered at any Dunkin’ Donuts stores located in the Bangkok area.

Khunying Kullasup Kejmaenkij, former director of the Fine Arts Department, presided over the launching ceremony. “The ‘Books for Friends’ project of Dunkin’ Donuts is a commitment made by the company to benefit students from poor families throughout Thailand,” she told the audience. “It also underscores the need for businesses to focus on their responsibilities to society, especially toward education.”

“Encouraging children to read educational materials is one way for our children to spend their time fruitfully, broaden their knowledge and desist from doing harmful acts. I would also like to congratulate both Dunkin’ Donuts’ management and their staff on their commitment to moral social value,” she added.

Moonthira Narula, executive director for marketing of Dunkin’ Donuts said, “This is our first year in organizing such a campaign to enhance the reading capabilities of Thai students by encouraging them to read more in order to broaden their knowledge and views. We at Dunkin’ Donuts believe that education is fundamental in learning and development which will help children grow up to be good resources for the Thai community. The staff at Dunkin’ Donuts together with volunteers will sort and distribute the books to selected students in the provinces,” she said.

Dunkin’ Donuts has been operating in Thailand for some 20 years. The company is committed to strengthening family values and to fulfilling its role as a good corporate citizen. One of the coolest groups to be in must be the Jazz Band which got everybody ‘in the mood’ with their polished performance!

Artistic as well as musical talents were on display with an exhibition featuring artwork from secondary students.

Everyone enjoyed looking at the exhibition of artwork by secondary students.

The exhibition highlighted a range of media created by students from Years 7 to 13. Thanks must go to the staff and students who worked so tremendously hard and ensured a very enjoyable evening for all those who attended.
