The UK Club of Pataya held their final function for the year 2001

Pattaya’s UK Club hosted their final function for 2001 at the Ban Thai Restaurant last month. The evening was a conclusion to their first year on the ‘club scene’ in Pattaya. The evening’s events began with 20 or so members chatting away before dinner was served.

Ron Hall, the club’s president, having just returned from the UK greeted everyone and thanked them for their attendance and support during the club’s recent activities, raising some 44,000 baht for charity in the last month alone.

Ron Hall and Nong Gray celebrated dual birthdays at the UK Club.

After Ron gave his speech, Malcolm Boden and the committee brought out a surprise for Ron who was quietly celebrating his birthday. Nong Gray, who just recently tied the knot with David, was celebrating her birthday as well, and a birthday cake was presented, followed by several rounds of ‘Happy Birthday’ sung in what seemed like four different languages.

The donated funds will be used for much needed refurbishment of the ladies dormitories at the Redemptorist Vocational College for the Disabled.

It has been a successful first year for the UK Club of Pattaya, as they have raised over 72,000 baht for charity and have had good fun whilst doing so. The next function for the UK Club will be on January 15th, 2002 at the Sportsman’s Grill in Soi 13.

Norwegian couple celebrates 50th wedding anniversary during first trip to Thailand

Norwegian couple Tryve Hegna and his wife Johanne Hegna celebrated 50 years of marriage with their son Thorolaf recently at the Nordic Garden Resort in Jomtien. Thoralaf, who is the manager of the hotel, arranged the party celebrations, complete with some homegrown Norwegian favorites, such as lute fish and a ‘Norwegian Gran’ Christmas tree, both of which were brought in especially for the occasion.

Norwegian couple Tryve Hegna and Johanne Hegna celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Nordic Garden Resort in Jomtien.

This is the couple’s first trip outside of Norway. When asked what they thought of Pattaya and Thailand, Mrs Hegna said, “We love it here, the weather and especially the Thai people. They’re very friendly”.

Mr. and Mrs Hegna said the same thing about their 50 years of marriage: “It has been 50 years of work.” Their message to couples getting married was that, “It’s a lot of work, and when things are tough, be strong and stay together because once you pass through the tough times the good times are coming.”

The party at the Nordic Garden was attended by hotel guests, family and friends from Norway in honor of the sprightly couple.
