ISR students
commemorate Remembrance Day
Once again, Remembrance Day was commemorated at the
International School of the Regents. All secondary students from ISR
joined in a special ceremony in honour of Armistice Day. Evocative poems
by Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen were read out by some students.
Afterwards everyone joined Mr Leslie, ISR’s Headmaster, in observing a
minute’s silence while the haunting melody of ‘The Last Post’ was
played.
ISR
students were involved in commemorating Remembrance Day with a special
ceremony.
The background to Remembrance Day had been explored in
an initiative by the school’s English and History Departments. Students
studied the period of the First World War and learned how Armistice Day,
the 11th November 1918, came to be used as a special time to commemorate
soldiers who had fallen. Now Remembrance Sunday, the closest Sunday to
Armistice Day, is traditionally marked by the laying of wreaths at the
Cenotaph in London and honours soldiers who have fallen in all wars. The
day was also remembered in the primary school with a special assembly
presented by Year 6 students.
Poppies were collected from the British Embassy and
sold throughout the day in both the primary and secondary schools, raising
1,200 baht which will be forwarded to the British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

St. Andrews International School, Rayong has recently
been accepted as a member of the Federation of International Schools in
South East Asia (FOBISSEA).
St.
Andrews International School, Rayong was recently accepted as a member of
the Federation of International Schools in South East Asia (FOBISSEA).
Mrs. Jill Thomas, the Head of the School went to Penang,
Malaysia last week to make a presentation about St. Andrews, Rayong in
front of 20 FOBISSEA head teachers at their annual Head Teachers
Conference. It is a great honour for St. Andrews to be part of this
federation as it provides opportunities for the students in Key Stages 2
and 3 to participate in sporting and musical events in the region of South
East Asia. This may involve visiting schools in other countries and will
therefore provide rich cultural experiences as well as the opportunity to
experience competition sport at a high level.
Membership also allows the teaching staff of St.
Andrews to meet with other teachers from schools in South East Asia that
are delivering the British National Curriculum in order to exchange ideas
and further their own professional development.
The membership is immediate and therefore St. Andrews
will aim to compete in the Primary Games, which are to be held in Malaysia
in March 2002. More information regarding this event will follow before
the end of this term.
