Golfer lobbies for noise curfew

Editor;

My group visits Pattaya twice yearly to play golf. The courses here rank very high comparable to the rest of the world. Of course word gets round and now after playing for many years without spotting another golfer on the fairway an appointment is the best requirement for a non queue tee off.

Having said this, it must be obvious to all your golf playing readers that an early tee off time is a must. And so to bed. Around midnight / 1 a.m. seems ok for a good night’s sleep before 18 holes in the searing heat.

Hurrah! The din stops 2 a.m. We can sleep.

Should Pattaya become affected by a drop in tourism, post Sept. 11, an all round approach will be the requirement to boost tourism: families sports people, etc.

All of your discerning commentators will find not all require beer and entertainment non-stop, plus the reluctance on the bargirl’s part to turn down the volume.

We live in a fast changing world and when your dissenters on the 2 a.m. cutoff take their revenue elsewhere they will soon realize that world tourism for all rules, and the after midnight curfew on noise is widely universal.

Watch your slips at ATMs

Dear Sir,

I recently experienced a problem with an ATM machine that you might want to warn your readers about. I requested 20,000 baht, but the ATM only dispensed 15,000 baht, which was also duly printed on the slip. I made a mental note to check my account statement, and found that I was indeed debited 20,000 baht, and not the actual 15,000. I see many people just throwing away their ATM slips when withdrawing money, but they should keep the slips and check against their account statements, because without the slip, they will have a hard time getting their money back from the bank.

Best regards

Considering canceling

Editor;

With the Thai government telling the tourist you must go from the bars at 2 a.m. its like telling children to go to bed. What’s the point of coming to Thailand for a vacation if you are going to be treated like children? I am considering whether or not to cancel my vacation in Thailand.

Regards,

John

Don’t change a thing

Editor;

In response to Mr. Cocksedge: Personally I feel that we as a society should not change one thing, outside of security issues, due to the events of September 11. To do so is to admit that the actions of these fanatics has made a change. It cannot, we must live our lives as we had before. The plane at the Royal Gardens is a well known icon for Pattaya and to remove it because some badly misguided people performed an unthinkable act would just be wrong.

Discouraged by the weather

Hello,

Congratulations on your paper which I read every week here in England via your internet edition (and of course I buy it when in Pattaya!).

I have been following the crocodile story since the Bangkok Post (and our own papers in England) reported the escape. But... it isn’t the crocs that bother me. I am coming to Pattaya in two weeks time. You seem to be having a lot of rain - is there any sunshine to go with it?

Best Wishes,

Bernard Morris

Good luck gay festival

Dear Editor,

Can I just say as a heterosexual man in Pattaya that I wish all the luck in the world for the gay festival starting soon. Can I also say that as a South Pattaya resident and seeing some of the very young working boys down the likes of Soi 17 or Soi V.C as it is known I personally think it will be a good idea for the undercover police or whoever else has the power to maybe do some I.D. spot checks on tourists with their partners that may appear to look some what younger. This I feel as a Pattaya lover is what really needs to happen to un-tarnish the image of Pattaya and possibly deter the paedophiles or older people that are prone to choosing very young partners.

Once again good luck to the festival and I hope plenty of cash is raised fore the AIDS hospital and drug centre.

Regards,

Mick
