Pattaya’s unique shopping scene: Thaipan Thai Silk - exuding quality and class

by Lesley Warner

Everything about this shop exudes quality and class, from the exquisite range of silk to the superb brass and intricate woodcarvings.

From intricate woodcarvings to exquisite brass items, Thaipan Thai Silk has it.

Thaipan has been established in Pattaya for 30 years but has only occupied the new premises at Thappraya Road for the last 4 months; it’s conveniently located for easy parking and stress free shopping.

I spoke to the owner, Khun Malinee Sariman who told me that they make all their own silk in the factory they have in the northeast of Thailand. Most tastes can be catered for and designs from different areas of Thailand are available. (A bit like the Scottish Tartan, each area has a pattern of it’s own). If you have your own ideas and designs they will endeavour to cater for them or alternatively they can help you with designs. The most import issue to Malinee is quality in everything; all the items in the shop are handmade and come from Thailand.

Thaipan has a full stock of Thai Silk from which to choose.

There are many different patterns, textures and weights in silk, and the price varies accordingly. Raw silk comes in 2 ply and 4 ply giving a beautiful finish when used in this natural state.

They do offer a tailoring service but as yet have not branched into the home furnishing markets, e.g. curtains and covers, but this may come in the future.

Decorative items turn any home into a work of art.

The amazing brass items come from a factory in Bangkok and the woodcarvings from another factory in the north of Thailand.

Designs can be copied from photographs but Malinee said, “Obviously there are some differences in wood, so things can vary a little.”

Orders can be taken on silk, brass and wood and shipped anywhere in the world; this is all organized with no hassle for the customer.

For more information contact Malinee on (038) 251 661.
