Local artist donates a unique portrait to Father Ray Brennan

Mike Baird, a supporter of the Pattaya Orphanage and a celebrated international painter for almost 40 years, donated one of his paintings to Father Ray Brennan, the founder of the Pattaya Orphanage.

The unique painting was created by Baird, who was inspired to paint Father Ray’s portrait in the style of the famous American painter Norman Rockwell. Baird then combined the 1936 New York Post cover with a photograph of Father Ray, taken from the Pattaya Mail, to come up with the final evocative picture.

Father Ray, who is normally reluctant to receive personal gifts, was nonetheless pleased to receive something as unique as this.

Jan-Olav pours the wine

Ranjith tells Jomtien-Pattaya Rotary Club how to enjoy it

The new club service director of the Jomtien-Pattaya Rotary Club is the world famous numismatist and local Pattaya identity, Jan-Olav Aamlid. He is determined that this new Rotary year 2001-2002 will be a memorable one for the Rotarians and as one of his novel ideas invited the Royal Cliff Wine Club’s captain, Ranjith Chandrasiri (and the Pattaya Mail’s wine columnist) to address the club on the correct way to drink the wine Jan-Olav supplied.

Ranjith’s message had the Rotarians and guests all sniffing away to appreciate the “nose” and swirling away to heighten the aroma, running the wine around the palate, then sitting back to experience the final finish.

It was a different evening for the hard working Pattaya service club and there are more fun events to come, promises Jan-Olav Aamlid. This is a man who has already worked out that all work and no play makes Jan-Olav a dull boy!

The Jomtien-Pattaya Rotary Club meets each Wednesday at 6.30 p.m. at the Royal Cliff Grand in the Royal Cliff Beach Resort.
