Innovation Day at TGI

The Thai-German Institute held their 2nd Technology Exhibition under the title of ‘Innovation Day’ at their Institute in Amata Nakorn on the 4th of April.

German Ambassador Hermann Erath tries out the new BMW C1, the first bike with safety belts, as HE Pichate Satirachaval, the Deputy Minister of Industry looks on.

HE Hermann Erath, Ambassador of Germany and HE Pichate Satirachaval, the Deputy Minister of Industry presided over the event and were warmly welcomed by the directors of TGI, Walter Kretschmar and Narong Ratana.

TGI holds two exhibitions a year with each lasting six months. The purpose is to invite industries and businesses to display their latest technology, using TGI as the hub and a meeting point for knowledge and technology transfer. Some of the many highlights of innovation at the exhibition were:

Siemens with its products and services, especially in calibration

Heatec with its technically unique hot acid proven air filter system, which is manufactured locally and exported to many countries, including Germany

BMW with two motorbikes, one from 1938 and the other the new C1, the first bike with safety belts

The Bio Diesel Pilot Project initiated by EC-Chem, Siemens and TGI, and

Solar Technology from Solar (Siemens), as well as many more.

Why was the event called Innovation Day? Walter Kretschmar explained in his opening speech, “First of all, TGI provides two exhibitions a year. One starts in October under the motto ‘Cooperation’ to remind us of the very peaceful and fruitful reunification in Germany. The other starts in April, just before Songkran and is called ‘Innovation Day’. All those who attended the event at TGI may have noticed that water fountains guided them from the entrance to the Audi Max. Water is the symbol of Songkran, the symbol of life, the symbol of innovation. A fountain is full of water, full of life; always with the same water but always in a new mix so it is never the same with the second flow.

“TGI the High Tech Training Center is the point and the place where technical people are partners with the industry, where continuous innovation can develop. Where knowledge and skills are implemented.

“In this globally high-tech world, knowledge doubles every second year. How do we keep pace? By training, at TGI. TGI is like a pump in the fountain but TGI alone cannot produce innovation by pumping skills and knowledge into the industry.

“Communication, creativity and continuous fertilization are as important to create innovation as cooperation and training that we provide.”

As John F. Kennedy once said, “If you think training is too expensive, try ignorance.”
