Pattaya City tackles parking problem

Parking fees seen as one solution

Parking space has become a major issue in Pattaya due to the large number of vehicles clogging Beach Road. This tourist area is so crowded with ‘vehicles for rent’ that many visitors are unable to walk and the view is cluttered. Visitors coming to Pattaya also have no place to park private vehicles.

The city attempted to alleviate this problem by collecting parking fees but the congestion is still excessive. Visitors vehicles parked in designated parking areas are often subject to vandalism by car rental service owners, to discourage them from parking in the areas.

The City Council decided t its monthly meeting to increase police vigilance in the parking areas, collect parking fees and delay designating any new parking areas.

The planned parking fee is 5 baht per hour for motorcycles and 10 baht an hour for automobiles.
