Premier orders armed forces to help with rainmaking operations

Bangkok – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha is concerned over the current drought in the provinces and has urgently ordered the armed forces to support royal rainmaking operations.

The premier has ordered the armed forces to provide aircraft and personnel for the operations to increase the volume of water flowing into major dams, and help civilian authorities cope with the present lack of water. Due to the lack of rain, the volume of water in the dams has dropped by 40% while neighboring countries have reduced the volume of water flowing into Mekong River.

The government has continually followed and assessed the water situation and declared drought disaster zones in many provinces. Measures have been taken such as the distribution of water by water trucks, along with royal rainmaking operations and the excavation of artesian wells.
