Bangkok – The Prime Minister has reiterated his concerns about scams hurting the tourism industry after two Australian tourists were reportedly overcharged 3,000 baht for a van ride from Phuket airport to their hotel.

The Prime Minister stressed that the government is trying to implement all measures to promote tourism, making Thailand, and especially Phuket province, one of the world’s top tourism destinations.

He warned that unscrupulous vendors and businesses that seek to take advantage of tourists will not only affect Phuket’s tourism industry, but will also create a negative impression of the country and of the Thai people.

The Prime Minister said Thailand is not only home to beautiful tourism attractions but that the hospitality of the Thai people is also known across the world. He has asked all concerned to be good hosts to visitors and for officials to be on alert to prevent similar incidents in the future.
