BTS safety systems inspected following wall collapse

Bangkok – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is inspecting the safety system at BTS stations following an accident in which a concrete slab at Ari station fell onto the ground. The BMA engineers hope to complete the inspection at BTS Ari stations and 23 others within the next three-days.

Officials said the concrete slab which fell from BTS Ari station was part of a dilapidated wall which keeps objects from falling onto the ground below. Water had seeped into the concrete and damaged the steel rods inside it. The concrete wall might have to be replaced with a lighter, more durable one.

Meanwhile, the BMA has begun the installation of an elevator for persons with disabilities and a barrier at each BTS station. Elevators and barriers have already been installed at many BTS stations.
