Bangkok – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is set to proceed with the Khao San Road renovations, expecting street food vendors to return in a new format in February next year.
The renovation model includes the resurfacing of the road and walkways to be at the same level, paving the road with flamed stone, and arranging areas for some 240 street vendors which will be zoned according to category, namely food, clothing, and souvenirs.
Rising stainless-steel bollards will be installed to separate street food areas and vehicular traffic, and to arrange one-way road traffic. Street vendors will be allowed to sell from 9 am to 9 pm daily, with permits to be randomly drawn to admit newer vendors every 1-2 years.
The BMA is studying the feasibility of rejuvenating nearby roadways, such as Ram Buttri road in the tourist quarter of Bangkok, following the same renovation model as Khao San road.
