Bangkok – The Senate Speaker said clear measures have been put in place in the wake of criticism of a photo showing only a handful of senators at a recent meeting.
The issue was raised at Monday’s Senate meeting chaired by Senate Speaker Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, after acknowledging the 36 new cabinet members had received royal endorsement.
The Senate Speaker explained that the temporary meeting room could accommodate over 600 people but there were only 250 senators. Therefore, the picture of a Senate session could cause an impression of low attendance. Some senators attended their committee meetings on the same day and some others took turns to have their meals to prevent work or the meeting from being interrupted.
He stated that a chat application will be used to alert senators whenever there is low attendance at meetings and has called on all senators to be aware of the criticisms and strictly comply with attendance regulations.
