We gathered on the Tuesday this past week as Monday was a public holiday with higher prices being charged at the local courses.  We were scheduled for a late start but there were not that many players on the course other than our contingent.

Playing from the blue tees it seemed to suit some of our players as scores were not too bad and discussion at the completion was nothing short of good.  I think that some of our players have to keep in mind that we play from the forward tees more often than we play from the back ones.

The course was in top condition and the greens slow as per normal.

It was Steve Younger that set the pace as he scored an impressive 39 points to take the honours.  Ebrahim took second place with newcomer Tony Scamble rounding out the placings on the day.

26 eager golfers turned out to play Bangpra G.C., better known as the infamous ‘monkey course’.  No one knew what the course would offer up, given the amount of rain that had hit Pattaya over the past week but surprisingly we were to play with carts being allowed on the fairways.  The drainage system at this course must be top rate as with little signs of water on the course, many of the cups were full of water.

We hadn’t played here for some time but the facilities and politeness of the staff were all top rate.  The course is like a picture postcard and in very good condition with the greens playing true, but it is also long and tough.  As per recent times, it looked like rain would intervene but it held off and a gentle breeze kept playing conditions very pleasant.  So it was all set for some good scores, or was it?

Steve Younger continued his very good form, taking out A Flight and the Monthly Mug by the smallest of margins from ‘Buffalo’ Bill Steinmann.  Bill just managed to keep Mashi out of second place, again by the smallest of margins.

B Flight saw Wan Makmul showing a clean pair of heels to the rest of that field.  Second and third went to the count back system with John Anderson taking out second and Alex Field coming in third.  One finds it amazing that since ‘Gentlemen John’ has taken a rest from doing the score cards he appears to be winning more count backs, was he sharing things around?
