2nd Kim Danboise (14) 36pts

Div B (17 Up)

1st Bob Lindborg (24) 36pts

2nd Bruce McAdam (24) 33pts

3rd Roy Studds (40) 33pts

Although we played from the white tees today, it seemed as if a few tees were back with the blues and with a few difficult pin placements it meant that scoring wasn’t as easy as usual.

Yasu Arakawa holds up his special prize from the Outback Golf Bar after recording his first ever hole-in-one.

Roy Studds finally got somewhat of a game underway by scoring 33 points to finish in third place in Division B.  Ahead of him Bruce McAdam also had 33 points but with a better back 9 and finished in second place.  The front runner and playing steady golf off his 24 handicap was Bob Lindborg who took the win with 36 points.

In the A division, Paul Smith playing off 3 handicap, had his usual excellent and steady round to fire a gross 75, which equates to 36 points and gave him third spot on count back.  Beating Paul on count back was Kim Danboise who continues to improve as his lessons finally help him to play more consistent golf.  The winner of the day was Mike Missler who is now playing closer to his real ability and should continue to see a drop in his handicap.

Only one person recorded ‘2’, in fact two of them and that honour fell to Colin Goon who walked away with a handsome pot.

Wednesday, Feb. 3, The Emerald – Stableford

Div A ([0-16)

1st Peter Ennis (15) 36pts

2nd Mike Missler (11) 34pts

3rd Peter Lenoury (11) 33pts

Div B: [17 Up]

1st Eddie O’Meara (24) 36pts

2nd Brendan Cope (24) 33pts

3rd Eddy Beilby (40) 33pts

An unexpected high turnout for Emerald saw 23 players for this usually quiet Wednesday event.  The change to Emerald came about since Khao Kheow had a competition on, and with this popularity for Emerald, it looks as if we should include this course a bit more.  Pat Regan and his group of 8 Irish players did help boost the numbers somewhat as well, and welcome to all you guys on holiday here.

As things turned out, Emerald allowed a large number of overbookings, and our 9:40 tee time turned into a 10:20 tee off time.  Out on the course things didn’t go much better either, resulting in a 5 hour plus round for our 6 groups.

Feedback from the group was that Emerald is in great condition, despite the thick Bermuda grass that took over a lot of the golf course areas.  The greens were a standout, and many people commented that they are even slicker than Bangpra, and with the pins in some really hard places it made for tough scoring with many players recording even 4 putts on some holes.

Eddy Beilby, playing in the B division, returned 30 points that was good enough to secure third place while Brendan Cope, who had his first game since returning from his project in deep Africa, scored 35 points to finish second.  Eddie O’Meara from Ireland was only one of two players to record a score on handicap to finish in first with 36 points.

In the A division things didn’t go much better, with Peter Lenoury scoring 33 points for third place, Mike Missler shot another good round of 34 for second, and Peter Ennis also had 36 points to win the flight.

Sugar Ray Handford rolled in a 30-footer, Mike Missler bagged a brace and Brendan Cope a single to share the ‘2’s pot between them.

Friday, Feb. 5, Green Valley – Stableford

3rd Satu Lehtonen (26) 34pts

4th Keith Allen, (18) 32pts

5th James Bryan (18) 31pts

Div B (17 Up)

1st Maurice Copan (12) 41pts

2nd Sunanta Duangwaw (16) 37pts

3rd Yurie Murakami (16) 37pts

4th Mike Missler (10) 36pts

5th Yasumasa Arakawa (7) 35pts

With one of the biggest regular competition fields in recent months, it was good to see that the high season is finally in full swing, and what a day it was for one of our frequent players.

Yasu Arakawa from Japan scored his first ever hole in one on the 16th hole here at Green Valley, hitting a 9-iron to the 145 yard pin location, landing on the green and on the second bounce going straight into the hole.  According to Yasu it wasn’t his best shot and it was thinned a bit, but as they say, the scorecard doesn’t tell pictures and Yasu’s name will be added on the board at Green Valley for his special achievement.  The Outback also gave Yasu a special gift in addition to his prize money.

With the large field we had, paying out 5 places in two divisions.  Division B saw Bryan James with 31 points in fifth place, Keith Allen fourth with 32, Satu Lehtonen from Estonia in third with 34 and Brendan Cope scored well again with 37 to finish second.  Going one better than Brendan was the day’s winnet Reijo Heiskanen from Finland.

In the A division, Yasu scored 35 points in addition to his hole in one to finish in fifth spot.  Mike Missler scored an even par round to take fourth place while Yurie Murakami from Japan was third with 37 points, losing out on a count back to playing partner Sunanta Cotterell from Thailand.  In first place and well clear of the field was Maurice Copan from Canada with a fine 41 point score.
