It was a Merry Christmas start for our 6 groups of Santas taking on Green Valley in the morning before heading out to sample the numerous Christmas lunch venues in Pattaya.

Playing in two divisions, the course wasn’t busy and our groups made it around in good time – or perhaps they just played a bit quicker in the hope of getting some turkey before it was all finished!

One group, consisting of Paul Smith, Shane Ruddle, Barry Wellings and Paul Taylor took the course on from the blue tees.  Green Valley is in my humble view a completely different course from the blues, and it becomes a really beautiful layout with great depth and different lines to aim for than from the white tees. With the first hole requiring a menacing 220-yrd carry over the water, the results of playing from the blue tees varied widely amongst the group, and as usual the lower handicappers (gaining 2-3 shots) still faired a lot better than a higher handicapper who gained 6 shots playing off the blues.

In the B division with hcp 15 and up, Fidge Button finally came good this trip and recorded 36 points to finish in third spot.  Bruce Mcadam finished second on 37, losing on count back (for the millionth time) to Andy Makara on the same total.

In the A division, Tom Byrne filled the third spot on the podium, losing on count back to Tom Byrne after both scored 35 points each, but the real star of the day was Barry Wellings, playing from the blue tees on a course and slope adjusted 8 handicap and returning 36 points to clinch first place.
