PSC Golf from Tropical Bert’s

Tuesday, Sept. 30, Green Valley – Stableford

The day did not look at all promising as the rain was coming down early morning but we still managed to gather enough for 4 groups so off we went to the course.

The rain stopped as we reached the course but there was still that damp feeling around as we headed for the first tee.  The course was lightly used today and except for a group ahead that we had to slow down for at times, we moved along very nicely.  The layout itself had recovered from the storms well and apart from slow greens it played well.

Back at Bert’s it was soon time for the results and they were important as, it being the last Tuesday of the month, it was also the MBMG Golfer of the Month award.

The winner on the day was Dick Warberg with 39 points and we then had a count back on 37 points that saw Mark West in second, Max Scott in third and Bob Watson in fourth.

The golfer of the month award was a close affair, however by winning on the day, and other contenders not winning the count back, the MBMG Group Golfer of the Month was Dick Warberg.  Well done Dick.

Friday, Oct. 3, Treasure Hill – Stableford

A rainy Thursday night made for a nervous Tropical Bert’s golf group Friday morning.  Even though the sky was clear in the morning, the forecast was for more rain that afternoon, right in the middle of the golf day.  Well, nothing to do but get out there and hope for the best. Treasure Hill was waiting.

During the round at Treasure Hill, perhaps many golfers were hoping for some rain to provide an excuse for the scores this day, yet despite some rumbling off in the distance the weather remained clear.

Treasure Hill is currently in excellent condition, but it is a challenging layout.  Group after group returned to admit that on this day the course won.  So how would it end?

Tropical Bert’s has no shortage of talent, but some days things get tough and it’s a rare event when no one comes close to hitting their handicap.  The best of the lot was Maurice Roberts (11) with 33 points.  Well done Maurice!  Bob Watson (4) lost to Maurice on count back with his 33 points.  Mark West (13) claimed third place with 31 points, and Tom Herrington (17) even got into the money by taking fourth place with a measly 29.

Despite the scores no one complained about the course, and the upcoming PSC monthly to be held there couldn’t be at a better place.
