B Flight

1st Jim Bell (20) 36pts

2nd Bob Chidfala (19) 35pts

A fair sized crowd left Lewiinski’s to play our regular Sunday bash at Green Valley.  The course played long and the greens are getting faster all the time, too fast for most as the scores would indicate.

Freddy ‘the quite one’ Starbeck and Jimmy  ‘AK 47’ Bell were joint men of the match in A Flight and B Flight respectively with best on the day even par rounds.  A trio of players vied for the minor A Flight podium spots, led by old friend JP Maffray who picked up the silver on count back while the man riding a purple patch, David Palmer, took third place.  Unfortunately there was nothing left for Wales’s favourite son Phil Davies, who also finished on 35 points.

Bob Chidfala and Michael Prdebsting were knotted together in B Flight, also on 35s, but when the knot was undone it was Bob who lifted the silver leaving Michael back on the third step.

Monday, Oct. 26, Siam Waterside – Stableford

A Flight

1st Craig Tees (10) 39pts

2nd John Pierrel (14) 35pts

3rd John Harrison (17) 35pts

B Flight

1st Peter Wallace (21) 41pts

2nd Thierry Temime (25) 33pts

3rd Alistair Gall (18) 32pts

An excellent turnout traveled to play Siam Waterside in fine weather on Monday and with no sign of rain.  This course is in excellent condition with super fast greens and this suited the golf manager Peter Wallace down to the ground as he topped B Flight and the field with a man of the match flawless 41 points.

Peter was eight points clear of Thierry Termime and a further point clear of trio of golfers all tied on 32 points; Alistair Gall, Aidan Murray and Sean Soden and when the mud had settled it was Alistair who got to fill the final podium spot, leaving Aidan and Sean at sea level and potless.

The appropriately named Craig Tees teed it up perfectly to take the laurels in A Flight with a sparkling 39 points, four more than John Pierrel and John Harrison, with John (Pierrel that is) taking the count back verdict for second.

Wednesday, Sept. 30, Burapha A & B – Stableford

A Flight

1st Sugar Robertson (9) 35pts

2nd Phil Hutting (13) 35pts

3rd Rob Still (12) 34pts

B Flight

1st Peter Walker (19) 40pts

2nd Peter Wallace (21) 38pts

3rd Lewis Szigligeti (20) 37pts

Another large Lewiinski’s group headed to the ever popular Burapha and found the course to be in excellent condition as usual.  Tough pin placements on the very fast greens ensured that overall the course won the day, in fact only three players managed to better their handicaps, and they all played in B Flight.

Winning the top podium spot and the man of the match honours was Peter Walker with a splendid 40 points.  Tacking the second spot on the B Flight podium and two shots in arrears was the golf director Peter Wallace for his second pay window visit of the week.  Aussie star Lou ‘Zig-zag’ rounded out the flight a further shot adrift.

A Flight seemed to be a blast from the past as the flight was led by old friend Sugar Robinson with 35 points, but he needed all his luck to edge Phil Hutting who last played with the society a few years ago.  A count back was needed to fill the third podium spot as Rob Still and Peter Terry were knotted on 34 points and when the knot was untied it was Rod’s inner nine that was more evenly disbursed.

Friday, Oct. 30, Pattana A & B – Stableford

A Flight

1st Paul Herring (12) 37pts

2nd Michael Jefferys (15) 34pts

3rd Ciaram Smyth (18) 32pts

B Flight

1st Sean Soden (26) 40pts

2nd Paddy Jordan (23) 37pts

3rd Fintan Coggan (25) 28pts

We had played Pattana a few weeks earlier and it was in such good condition that we went back and booked it again.  This is one of the best value days out and the value price of a cart, caddy fee and green fee make a long drive well worth it.

Sean Soden, as tough a player as there is in the society, returned from a several week hiatus at the pay window with a best on the day 40 sparkling points – good enough for the top rung in B Flight.  Paddy Jordan was nearly as good as Sean with a fine 37 to take the flight silver while Fintan Coggan was gob smacked to see his 28 points was good enough for the bronze.

Top spot in A Flight belonged to Paul Herring with a solid 37 points.  Paul was three strokes clear of Mike ‘the Welsh wizard’ Jeffreys, who seems to like this course as he nearly always finishes in the frame.  Ciaram Smyth closed the flight on32 points.
